Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA)

RYLA forms part of Rotary’s investment in the leaders of tomorrow.

Across the Rotary Districts in Great Britain and Ireland, RYLA courses are fun, intensive training programmes in leadership development and teamwork for young people aged between 14 and 30 – though age ranges may vary between districts.

Talented young people are invited by Rotary clubs to attend a RYLA course which can be a seminar, camp or workshop of three to ten days in length. Most courses are a blend of physical activity and cerebral activity producing a unique experience and learning environment.

The RYLA programme enables young people to debate issues of professional responsibility, improve leadership and communication skills, learn about businesses, institutions, and meet Rotarians while having fun making friends.

For young adults, RYLA provides the opportunity to refine skills and explore pertinent topics with their peers and elders.

This year marks the 25 Anniversary of the RYLA programme and the Rotary Club of Crieff this summer sponsored two local candidates for the award. Invitations were circulated to local schools and youth groups. Following interviews two candidates from Crieff High School namely Alasdair Bendall and Rachael Bruce successfully completed the award at Nethybridge Outdoor Centre during July.

The Certificates are being presented to the successful candidates by Crieff Rotary President Willie Bell at the Club meeting on 8 September when Alasdair and Rachael are giving a presentation to Club members on the challenges they faced at Nethybridge.
