2007 Competition

Adjudicators and prize winners, from left to right and back to front, as follows:

Neil Metcalfe; Mairi Wilson; Rachel Wilson; Hannah Logan; Angus McLellan; Angie Dagpunar; Alexandra Taylor; Catriona Loudon; Rachael Smart; Naomi Gilles and Lindsey MacDonald

On Tuesday, 27th November 2007 The Rotary Club of Crieff held its Ninth Young Musician of the Year Competition. The Competition is held every other year and was started in 1991 by former club member, David Washington who has since recently moved away from the area. Happily, David was able to attend this year’s Competition to see his legacy continue from strength to strength.

The Music Competition was held at Morrison’s Academy who kindly made available a couple of their rooms for the competitors to perform in. Open to pupils from all schools in the Crieff catchment area, some 77 students were entered. Unfortunately a few had to call off due to illness and clashes with exams. The competitors’ performances were judged by Mr. Neil Metcalfe, Director of Music, Strathallan School and Mrs. Angie Dagpunar, a professional musician from Perth.

After a full day of music-making – there being so many entrants the morning sessions had to be judged in two separate venues - all prize winners and their accompanists were entertained for dinner at the Rotary Club meeting where they had to “play for their supper”.
